Artificial neons taking over natural light as the day is dying over Seattle's Pike Market.

I remember this sign.. Brent will be getting some stiff competition from you :) Really good composition, colors and light here.

Ivan, you have suceeded in capturing an exquisite sunset, as a backdrop to this Neon sign.

Thanks all for the feedback. I was definitely lucky with the light and the sky that day. I hope next time I return they will have fixed the A so I can sell this one as a postcard :-)

I did a double take when I saw this; I think Inframan had captured the same scene a while back. But great capture, especially with that luscious sunset as a backdrop.

Hey, I thought this was Brent's - Just kidding Ivan! ;-) Wonderful sky and water in the background so this works as solid and liquid or artificial and natural light. Well done!

Ha ha, we are not the only ones who clicked a shutter in that spot indeed Ivan. With the Pike Place Market being the top tourist attraction in town you know there are always going to be plenty of cameras around. As I said before, Seattle really isn't all that big and there are only so many places you can go to shoot or streets you can walk to find something spontaneous. What always makes me laugh is when I go places in town to photograph something weird for some obscure topic. There will be no other photographers around when I show up to shoot, but several magically appear as soon as I whip my camera out. This is a worthy scene you have here, but I'm sure several others you saw shooting while you were there only shot because they saw you shooting first ;-)

Thanks all for the comments. Approaching this from a light perspective is a good idea too. I'll be thinking about changing the title to "Artificial versus Natural Light" or "Neons versus Sunset". Thanks for the input.
Brent, I did notice few days ago that you have a very similar shot indeed. When I went there for the photo I was not the only one with a camera, so I guess we are not the only ones :-) The neons were not working 100% when I was there (the A was having issues) but the sky was gorgeous! We should merge our photos with your neons and my sky, it would be the perfect Seattle shot :-)

Right - Better the use the opposite kind of glowing lights (nice idea John). Nice picture too!

The crop and exposure is just right to capture both sunset and neon.

Well taken, right exposure, and nice sky. Daniel.

This light is very nice, on a beautiful sky and sea scape. The neon contrasts with that quite effectively. I'd like to try some coffee in the red cup, and eat some fish and chips in Seattle. Might be worth the trip.

Okay, liquid vs solid it is Ivan :-) He he, thought this was mine as I used the exact same scene on some of this crowd a year or two ago. It's bound to happen because Seattle isn't really all that big compared to NYC where you just visited- hope you had a good time there. For the record, my signs turned out better but your sky is much more dramatic than mine was- nice work! ;-)

Look at the title: Liquid (coffee) versus solid (the fish).
