I guess I have to relent on my resolution to avoid challenges -- I found that I missed them and needed that impetus to get me out to do something different. Taken on a perfect fall day at the Reflecting Pool just as the wind started up; went back today to try again, but it was like a windstorm compared to yesterday.

Wow! the top half looks razor sharp contrasting the soft reflection.

Wow.. 4 very strong pictures from you. "Upside Down" is beautiful and artistic, and this one could be a postcard. Impressive work.

I'm really glad you decided to join us in the open challenge Helen :-) Great series you put together of the capitol! This is flat out gorgeous. I was in this same spot a little over a year ago and it was hot and muggy with a solid gray sky- fall looks like the perfect time to shoot the capitol. Excellent work.

Another exquisite image. I love the details in the buildings, with the lovely colours reflected in the water.

Thanks, again, all, for the comments! Carole, I can highly recommend the LX3 for a carry-around camera and for travel; it's pretty excellent overall (except for the minimal zoom). It's funny; when I travel I usually bring my Nikon D300 and 3 or 4 lenses because I have my husband to carry my gear for me, but around town, it's just too heavy and too much of a bother. John, spring and fall are the absolute best times in Washington; summer is normally awful IMO. And FWIW of all my years of living on and off in D.C. in between foreign tours, this is the first time I have actually seen this reflection, and I had the greatest day possible for it!

This is really nice & the clarity is excellent. It's amazing what a little camera can do in the right hands. Great work Helen.

Beautiful fall image with a great looking sky, and the reflections are lovely too. I can see why you like your LX3. I need a nice little camera like that to travel with as a big DSLR is just too heavy when sightseeing.

You must have had a lovely day to take such a lovely pic

Thanks everybody for the kind comments! Daniel, a friend had been raving about the LX3 a while back so I decided to try it out and liked it. I feel picture quality is excellent, although the very short zoom is something of a handicap. Distortion is also generally worse in architectural photography than with the H5, which is hard to believe. But overall, a nice little camera, and it fits in my purse, so I always have it on me.

A nice peaceful shot with great Fall color. When we were in this exact spot this summer it had a big cloud and ready to rain and we had to get the bikes back before it rained.

What a beautiful image Helen, colors are perfect!. By the way, I know that you mostly take pictures using H5, but in this case you used a LX3. I`m interesting in knowing what you found in LX3 that H5 lacks...Body size?. Quality?. Resolution?. Daniel.

Great to see you back Helen! And you always amaze with new perspective of DC. Great series! Cheers, Frank
