RK...wonderful challenge, and congratulations to Brent on a well deserved win. I too must say I am elated to be amonst the 'big boys' with my fourth place. I think this next challenge is going to make us all sweat a little, maybe not!
 (19/11/2009 @ 01:03:43 EST)
Congrats Brent. Good challenge...glad to have made it back in one since I've been absent for a while, sailing around the Caribbean. Honored to break a top 10 with you guys! John...no worries - even the host of this place has had photos go unvoted...many of us have (one of mine scored a 0 this time, and one got only a single point). It's a tough competition here - great photogs, you included...sometimes the dice just don't roll your way! You'll crawl your way up there I'm sure.

Congratulations Brent, great image. JP, Rod & Jill, well done all wonderful images. This has been a great challenge & I am sure the next is going to receive great support. Will have to put on the thinking cap :-)

I understand what you feel John...If it helps, let me tell you why I didnīt vote your entries. In fact I liked both of them, they are very nice portraits indeed, well framed, well processed...but the relationship with the topic is very subtle for my taste. I mean I prefer to put my votes in entries that show a strong relationship with the topic, entries where it is very evident an clear why they fit the topic.
I hope you understand me well John, I told you this because I know what you feel, and I think you could appreciate some feedback...Anyway, this is just my opinion, others could evaluate things different...Daniel.

Maybe the pixelpeep challenges are tougher than the dpreview ones. I was 16th out of a field of 28 photos over in dpland, but neither of my entries in this challenge received a single vote. I'm really going to have to pull up my socks if I want to hang with you guys.

Uuuuuuh... it seems I understood all that bad. Thanks for the clarification. Daniel.
 (18/11/2009 @ 19:07:24 EST)
Not to worry Daniel, was wondering if I missed a good joke (besides the fish & chips).
 (18/11/2009 @ 18:50:04 EST)
Wanted to add my congrats to my Seattle mate Brent. You had several outstanding pics which made it hard to vote, along with some really good photos from the rest of the group. You winning this challenge which was all about light while we were having such horrible light here in the past 2 weeks is a great lesson that you can shoot great pictures in virtually any condition, and that bad weather should never be an excuse. Now you have the tough responsibility to choose the next topic...how about Rain and Horrible Clouds :-) ?
Cheers, and congrats again! Ivan.

Thanks Carole. And I forgot to congratulate the rest of the placegetters: 2xJP, Jill, and my favorite english teacher (rodbam). The votation was very difficult indeed because we had many outstanding entries in this challenge. Daniel.

Again thanks everyone very much! I wish I had a less hectic day going here at the office but am very pleased to have the honor of hosting the next challenge.
Really a great job of hosting RK and a good topic you picked too. It's ironic that though the weather was awful and gray in the Pacific Northwest through most of the challenge, we had a one-two PNW finish with JP right behind me in second place- well done JP!
I have to type this quickly and then run out of the office for a bit because I am doing a process that makes the place very smoky right now. But here is the new topic: "Duotones": Your image should only consist of two tones (black/white, sepia, etc). Pretty simple really and though pxp has already done a black & white challenge this is a little different.
I'll get the gallery up when the air clears in my office (a neighbor just came by to see what the smoke was from!)
Thanks again!

A big CONGRATS Brent on a Terrific image! And congratulations to the other placegetters too. All those good images made voting difficult.
Thanks for the good hosting RK - I enjoyed seeing everyones take on the topic!
Daniel, don't worry about your English, you do much better with it than I could ever do with a second language! :-)

Thanks for helping Brent, it seems that "funny" doesnīt mean the same that "fun". Below I tried to explain in my own words what I wanted to mean. Thanks again mate. Daniel.

RK I don`t know if you speak spanish, If you do, I tell you that I wanted to mean "divertido-entretenido". I thought that "funny challenge" meant that everybody enjoyed the challenge very much. But now your curiosity make me suspect that "funny" was not the right word, so forgive me if I was not clear enough. English is not my native language and often I get help from a dictionary, now looking for another word I found "enjoyable". Or, in "rodbam languaje" it would be "very very manly". That was I wanted to mean, is it clear now?. Just in case I have eliminated "funny" from my "most frequently used words" list. Daniel.

Wow! Thanks Daniel and RK and to everybody who voted for my image :-) I'm sure Daniel is saying in an English as a second language way it was a very fun challenge RK, I know I enjoyed it a lot myself.
I'm in the middle of something hot and heavy here at work presently, but will check back in about an hour or two and have a new topic to present. Thanks much all!

Congratulations Brent and all placegetters and thanks to all participants.

all done - :)
 (17/11/2009 @ 20:48:06 EST)
Mereana!!!! Are you taking any pictures?????
 (17/11/2009 @ 10:31:59 EST)
I enjoyed this challenge. I really never thought of the lighting as side lighting but rather just good lighting. Now I see how you could create it or look for it in other situations rather than just stumbling across it.

I just calibrated my monitor with the Spyder3Pro. It is showing that I did my last 8000 pictures a few steps too low (I must have had the monitor up a little too high). Oh well ... I'm not going to redo them ... I will just consider them the "print" version ... no more dull boy here. ;-)

RK I am with Carol, this was a very funny and well hosting challenge, so thank you for it!!!. Daniel.
 (17/11/2009 @ 09:01:08 EST)
Thanks Penny and CJ. I didn't create a voting thread as the voting is integrated with the challenge. I will create the results/transition thread.

Is there a voting thread? Maybe we don't even need one. Great hosting RK and lots of good entries!
 (16/11/2009 @ 18:07:07 EST)
31 points??? That's a whole lot... but I guess it's a good thing since there are a whole lot of great pictures to choose from! I liked this challenge. Thanks, RK!

Gee thanks guys :-) But trust me, my new portrait makes a better 50 pix avatar than it would an 800 pix image in the gallery.

Brent, you should have entered your nice avatar picy into the side lighting gallery - it's perfect for the topic! :-)

Me & the missus are off........No we haven't gone bad we're off to Sydney in the morning for a week away. Me mate where we're staying has the new fangled thing called the internet so I shouldn't miss much except for the slow drive down which should take us a couple of days.
I hope you're all excited as you will get another holiday picy post or two.....maybe three when we get back:-)

Thanks Carole, Conan is quite a food obsessed character ;-) He's wearing his normal leather harness, but the wide angle "Conan-Cam" makes it look huge.
I did recover my missing images this morning. I just had to unplug/plugin my supposedly deluxe Sandisk Extreme Firewire card reader. No idea why it would only read some images, but all is good now :-)
