I love the way the dead straight track leads us through the wonderful foliage to the barren mountains in the distance.

John I really do like your style , you really do appeal to my type of pic. Love the colours and the endless vista .

It was processed from RAW Tom. The highlights burned at the top of the far mountain but I knew I was going to crop up there anyway. Unfortunately the 20x24 print we made has the greens a little too dark in the shadows and the bright yellow a little duller but then that's printing. This is why B&W can carry so much DR in a print ... white is just whiter whereas color is less saturated or one channel saturates earlier than the rest and skews the color. Every time I get a new camera (this trip was entirely G9) I always wonder could I have got more with the newer capability. The answer is always yes but then I settle down and think my old 120 dual lens reflex could have done better yet and I definitely wouldn't want to go back to that one. :-)

Beautifully composed and exposed John with the nearly symmetrical set of leading lines pulling us in and up - old RR tracks and bank of the stream. Dynamic range is so well controlled - processed from RAW?

Love how the tracks disappear in the woods. Gorgeous shot!

Another lovely one but with an entirely different feel, just out and out gorgeous! Nice work.

Gorgeous. The rail not only serves as a leading line but also tie everything together in the photo.

Grand, (that may be why they called the river that...), spectacular, vivid, and satisfyingly wild.

Another nice scene John! The train tracks really lead the eye into the image. Beautiful fall scene and I like the contrast between the golden deciduous trees, the evergreens and then the lighter mountains in the background - nice layering!

Thanks Martin. I didn't see this scene from the road but another. I u-turned and could only find a spot 300 yards down the road to pull off. I convinced Theresa to come with me because I might be gone a half hour or more. After taking a few pics we walked about 50 yards toward the river onto a overhanging cliff. It was clear from the underbrush that this spot was not used by anyone. Theresa usually stays in the car researching the maps of roads and fun spots up ahead. Since it was harder to get to, this picture may be one of a very few ever from this vantage point and seasonal peak ... tranquil ... absolutely ... you could hear the Rio Grande rushing below. I got several like this from our trip but having seen this one in person probably influenced Theresa's choice of what to hang in the house.

Beautiful scene, John, very majestic but tranquil looking and with perfect light.

This was a most spectacular road trip. We did over 2000 miles on 3 scenic loops in Colorado when Fall was at its peak. Fantastic short sleeve top down driving weather all but one day. This is also not the most popular in the set [link]. But my wife and I decided it best represented the trip and would go well in our house. I got a $12 20x24 poster that was pretty good. My wife decided we would do it up right so it is in Michael's getting 3 layer matte with a black and green and yellow matching and a nice black wooden frame. It is enormous. $207 with a 50% off coupon ... yikes ... I should have gotten a better print ... but you will never notice since the viewing distance will typically be no closer that 3.5 feet. It hasn't come back yet (Christmas Present to ourselves) but it looked great in the layout.
