The touch of light source in the frame adds life to the shadows.

Effectively composed, and I like those long shadows running the length of the image. Nice work!

A classic "fence shadows on snow" shot, Maryanne. I've been looking for one like this to enter, but the sun (and even the snow) is not too plentiful here this year.

I wish you had submitted it bigger Mary Anne. It is nicely sharpened. I think I can even see the texture on the fence wire. The sharpened crust on the snow makes it feel especially cold. I almost feel the wind coming off the river/lake here.

Aam, Sharon and I are mostly communicating via email these days, as she's so busy with all her projects. I'll be sure to pass your comments on to her.

Speaking of Sharon (Elips), invite her here, she will kick some behinds in these challenges (photographically-speaking), and may collect some prizes in the process. She is such and excellent photographer, always admired her work and her imagination.

Mary Anne, like you, I'm new to win 7. What I did is go to Start/Getting started/Discover Windows 7. Nice tutorials there and will get you on your feet in no time.

You're right...this was shot in Holyoke. Sharon and I have gotten together several times for photo shoots and have also traveled to Hartford to meet up with Shu and to New York City (twice) to do some photography with Penny and TV. Be sure to give us a holler if you're ever back in this area.

Thank you all for the kind comments...I'm kind of overwhelmed. Aam, yes this is the Mary Anne a/k/a flowersand from the pbase challenges. I've been spending so much time trying to learn my new OS (Windows 7) and new programs that I haven't had as much time as I'd like on photography. Inframan, this is in Massachusetts...in the next town over.

Very good pic for this challenge, the shadows certainly dominate this chilly scene.

Hi Mary Anne - Welcome! Wonderful entry for the challenge - Both the fence and the shadow make great leading lines into the image. I like that sun/lens flare too.

Mary Anne as in Flowersand? Hey, nice to see you here. How have you been, my friend.

What a beautiful light, shadows and composition you have here. Well done!

Hey, great to see you back at the peeper Mary Anne! Yes this does look mighty cold, and it's a beautiful image too. Very effective shadows for the topic and that lens flair looks great too.
Don't forget the file size limitations have been increased here to up to 1000 pixels per side- might as well show if your image even more. No worries about viewers with small screens having to scroll as Martin made a nifty incremental sizing control button up there on the right. Just click it to move around and adjust and click it again to jump back to full.

PS How's the new computer?

Brrrr. Good snow, light and shadows. This should be over at the "Temperature" challenge at Pbase.
