Our Catawba grapes should be ready to pick by the end of February. Had the vine for some 35 years. Got a little hammered by hail a few weeks ago :-(

Those water droplets really stand out so clearly. Nice colouring too.

Hi John. This was a parallel shot. The day before it had rained & I recalled what the grapes looked like. When I was ready to take my shot it was dry. So I sprayed mist on the grapes till the mist gathered to become drops :-). Shooting with the 200-500 at 500 & at 6.3, I got the DOF I wanted. In short I was to lazy to fit the 100mm macro LOL. With the super zoom of the 500 I could have filled the image frame just with the dizzy grape :-)

Ernest, are these shot from underneath ... it appears that some of the drops are defying gravity if it isn't. The big drop is making me squint so as not to get it in my eye when it finally drops. The blue makes for a colder fresher feeling.

Daniel, Maryanne, ET. Thanks for taking the time. I do enjoy the challenges as they do just that, challenge me to think out the box LOL.

Very well captured. Water drops brings more freshness to the grapes.

I really thought these were blueberries, but the colors are gorgeous nevertheless. The sparkling drops of water make the image special.

John, Roc, PhotoG. Thank you. It was the water that did it for me. Rod, will have to speak to Jill about adding these borders ;-).

Hi CJ. I was using the Tamron 200-500. Was to lazy to fit the 100mm Macro. Still the 500 does a good job at long range macro shots :-). I shot These from about 2 meters.

I thought these were blueberries at first! Great looking macro and I love those colors and water drops. 500mm? What lens were you using?

Hi All. Thank you for the comments. These are purely for eating :-). This year I want Jill to make some Jam (Jelly for our USA folks). I never knew the origin of these grapes but know Catawba grapes were introduced to wine-growers in the 1800s by Major John Adlum of Georgetown, being found along the Catawba River in NC. TG for Google LOL. As to how they found their way to Africa & into my garden... Who knows, still I am delighted they are here.

lovely rich colors all around. Very nice!

Very well shot Ernest and they look great. Creative use of 500mm for sure.
 (22/01/2010 @ 19:32:00 EST)
Very appetizing presentation, Ernest! The colour is so close to blueberries, it's hard to tell the difference.

Very nice macro. Love the colours and super sharp focus. I also like how the weather has taken the toll on them. Those scratches scream wind! Little did they know they'll become Wine soon...
