Your pp is amazingly natural. And thanks for explaining it.
 (11/02/2010 @ 12:25:23 EST)
Bravo, Daniel. Not for the PP/photo, but for being honest and courageous to tell us how you took it (sound of aam1234 clapping in the background).

Well I must say congratulations to Doug & Aamm for raising doubts about this picy as I can't see anything to make me doubt it, well until Christakis worked out the effective focal length was 35mm which might raise some doubts about the DOF.
So now to make this a great picy I would clone the plane out as this is a load of rubbish now a:-) I didn't think you would be able to do this sort of PPing on holidays which also help me to be sucked in. Anyhow Daniel me ole mate you can be excused for this horrendous deed seeing as though you're in a playful holiday mood. Hope you & the family are having a great time:-)

Great take on the theme; love the brilliant color and the composition. I particularly like the placement of the plane in the corner of the image.

Thanks for the explanation. It sounds like you went through a lot of trouble to get the shots. Brilliant to keep the same shooting angle and therefore the same lighting because it was the perfectly matching light that was throwing me off. Excellent work in both photography and in post processing.

Cont...I set manual focus to infinite and burst mode to get many shots of the plane for choosing the best one. Considering that only 3 or 4 minutes elapsed between both of the shot Brenda and plane, sunlight came from the same angle so the lighting was the same, the sky was the same, luminosity was the same, and the shadows matched (see Brenda’s face and the side of the plane). And then the merging-pasting process for joining the two shots was very easy and the result looked very natural. Was I clear enough?. Mystery solved!!!.

Hi people!
I’m happy my shot had called your attention. I prefer being honest and put the things clear because I know there are people that don’t like this type of PPing and do not use to put votes on this type of shots. And I don´t want to fool anybody. So this was what happened here: I wanted to improve the composition and let the observer knew the plane was flying over the beach, so I asked Brenda (my 14 years old doughter) to pose for me. My camera does not have a swivel screen (grrrrr!) so I had to be lying down on the sand to portrait Brenda and the sky as a background. That was the first shot that matches the EXIF you can read here. By the other side, this advertisement plane use to fly over the beach many many times during the day, and then after shooting the girl I just had to wait just 3 or 4 minutes while lying down on the sand to get the second shot: the plane (without Brenda). Cont...

I think Daniel, we're going to have to eliminate you the competition if we win something the rest of the contestants. With their photos can not compete!
 (08/02/2010 @ 20:07:03 EST)
OK, I'm not sure Daniel is reading his comments but do tell. Perhaps a remote control airplane?
 (07/02/2010 @ 14:22:05 EST)
Well I am at a loss after all the accolades..what more can I add :-)

stands out - where have you gone for your holiday?
 (07/02/2010 @ 05:38:53 EST)
Well timed again :-). & IMO the plane flew over, no Smart Patching, well done once more.
 (06/02/2010 @ 20:53:56 EST)
Love the colors, composition, and I hear that plane alright.

Alopa, I thought this was going to win another challenge that you were not you, but after seeing this picture ... Excelent composition!!!
Topaz filters you've won is the give your children? Because they are almost always part of your picture ;-)
 (06/02/2010 @ 14:01:22 EST)
Me too... the picture is amazing, anyway you look at it - down to every last detail.
 (06/02/2010 @ 13:24:27 EST)
Did I mention that I find this vote worthy regardless of my previous comments? After reading through again I thought I might have sounded like I was being rough on it.
 (06/02/2010 @ 13:18:12 EST)
Creative compo and perspective Daniel. Great work.
 (06/02/2010 @ 02:24:09 EST)
Terrific shot! Wonderful composition. Seems a few dudes will put their huge FF macines on sale very soon. ;-)
 (05/02/2010 @ 22:11:34 EST)
I agree Penny. The plane puts the excellent girly shot on topic. If Rod and Chris are correct, and they might be, then the beach better be clear for landing.
 (05/02/2010 @ 20:50:17 EST)
yesBut (where is he anyway) is this really about the plane? (not to be difficult but that's the way I'm feeling right now).
Love love love the picy but.
 (05/02/2010 @ 19:54:50 EST)
Outstanding composition and deliciously pretty especially to us up north in subfreezing temperatures. We're expecting snow tonight.
 (05/02/2010 @ 18:44:33 EST)
I still think that Daniel bribed the pilot to enter the photo just at the right time. Those Sony people are shady characters, I tell you :)
 (05/02/2010 @ 17:20:01 EST)
The answer was staring you in the face. According to [link], DSCH-H2 has a 1/2.5 " sensor which makes its widest angle (6mm) equivalent to 36mm which explains both straight lines and infinite DOF. Goes to show that sometimes compacts are better than SLRs ;) Now there's still a chance the plane was photoshopped but I will give him the benefit of he doubt. He's on holidays after all...
 (05/02/2010 @ 16:42:30 EST)
Oh, and at 6 or 9 mm, you are at a fish-eye territory.
 (05/02/2010 @ 16:40:25 EST)
Not DOF, but straight lines. Even at, let's say 1.5 crop factor, which means 9mm on a FF camera, the girl's arm wouldn't be straight, for example.

What seems strange about a 6mm shot having a great DOF guys? I think this is how Daniel took the picy & it's another winner a. Fantastic shot.
Mind you if he cloned the plane in then it's a load of rubbish a:-)
 (05/02/2010 @ 15:42:03 EST)
Didn't look at the EXIF data when I made my comment, Doug. But since you mentioned it and taking a look...hmmm :)
 (05/02/2010 @ 14:50:40 EST)
I like the unique angle you shot the girl at and the plane puts it on topic. Aam already touched on it but I too was curious about the focal length in the exif data. Also, like Aam, no need to answer.
 (05/02/2010 @ 13:42:52 EST)
Knowing how good your PP skills are, I'm not sure if this is how the photo was taken.

Btw, that's a comment not a question you have to answer.

Something surreal(ish) about this one, really like it, as Chris mentioned the connection between the shark and the plane is amusing ;)
 (05/02/2010 @ 13:00:06 EST)
Great timing. I probably would have missed this shot. I like all the clarity and color. It looks as if the surfer girl is completly oblivous to the plane flying above. The sounds of the waves rolling in and peeps having fun on the beach are probably drowning out the plane. Very nice.
 (05/02/2010 @ 12:20:58 EST)
Brilliant! The plane flys directly in the mouth of the shark. Spot on colours and focus. Very nice!
