Finally the RDA returned to Pandora on 2161 supported by massive nuclear weapons. Resistance was futile. The only sound you can hear today is the mumbling of the giant excavators when they dig into the ground ...

Dramatic capture, Frank, love the bleakness of the scene against the massiveness of that piece of equpiment.

Wow, what a monster. This looks similar in size to some the World Trade Center crane machinery. But you're allowed to get closer, evidently -
the trucks look like toys.

Frank once again a superb capture, this gigantic machine has such detail, but then so much too, in the surrounding area.

50 meters is equivalent to 13 story building. This thing is HUGE.

Thanks guys! The scene is an open pit mining close to where I live. Completly surreal and even standing there does not allow you a real sense of scale. The macine is about 50 meters high! Still the sound you hear isn't loud (from distance). will post a few more pics and link to google maps once I'm backto a real PC.
RDA stands for Resources Development Administration which runs the mining operations in the movie Avatar.

Chris, PP was sharpening, contrast and a bit of Topaz Adjust. Finally darkening the sky.

Delicious detail is what catches my eye. I keep trying and failing myself but I guess you have one of those ultrahigh resolution cameras to help. What's "RDA"?
 (13/02/2010 @ 20:38:59 EST)
That is one massive piece of equipment. The vehicles beneath it help to give us a sense of scale.

Frank, you are definitely Mr Avatar - great to have a posting from Pandora. What a machine & it must make a lot of noise - a huge rumbling noise I would imagine. I've tried the 3d glasses but they dont work here. Great stuff. Where is this ?

Why are you wasting your time as a photographer? You should be in the movies with imagination like that! Everything is in perfect focus and love your PPing. I wouldn't mind sharing your PPing secrets on this.
