In my case, to get shots like this I had to use HDR. Very well done Ivan.

I on the othere hand love the look of your city...this is a spectacular capture, the sweeping road encircling the buildings. I also love the colour of the lights being picked up from the sky behind...wonderful. It sings to me!

Thanks for the nice comment Mr Etnagig...No, this isn't HDR. I had to tweak the exposure a bit, add a bit of vibrancy and do a couple of local adjustments (such as increasing the contrast in the clouds) to make it all look nice, but no, no HDR, just one exposure. Ivan.

Ivan, very good composition and choice of site. Is it an HDR work? I like the colors and lights very much.

Very nice shots Ivan & I really like the size slope of the buildings down to the left. The view of the city wiv the mountain is gorgeous.

No John, that's not insulting at all. On the contrary, it is a very interesting perspective you are offering here. I guess what you say about Seattle is also the reason why I love this city so much. It has a lot to offer but it's still a human size, and you don't need to drive for hours to get from one point of the city to another. It also has the sea, many lakes, forests, and the mountains with decent ski resorts near by. With regards to supporting buildings...what you se here is the view from the south side (Beacon hill), which is best to catch the lights from traffic. Let me add 2 other POV in the drop box, one from the north and one from the west, you will see there are many buildings after all. -Ivan

If it weren't for the steel grey sky, it would be as pretty as a post card. I always think of the Police as being gaunt, (missing a few instruments and voices - which is perhaps their charm). After living in China all these years, where cities are always being upsized, I also think that Seattle looks a little gaunt, needing a few supporting buildings to present a real city skyline. So the song works with the photo for me.
I hope that isn't insulting. It wasn't intended to be. When I was a Canadian, I was always blown away by how big American cities are. Now that I've been in China for 11 years, it's the opposite.

A great image, you certainly did do your city proud. Picture perfect.

Nice looking skyline you have there Ivan. You did your city well.

Lovely night shot, Ivan! Love the long light trails. I was sure this was Seattle, even before I looked at your comment below. Only been there once a number of years ago, but I think I saw a similar perspective on this cityscape a few years back, and liked it.

very nice shot - you have achieved 3D without the glasses!

Hey Daniel, it's been 3 days I've been thinking about how to do Walking On The Moon as well, but I think I am going to give up on this one, unfortunately. I was thinking of silly things like going to the Space museum see if they have a model of the moon and take a playmobile with me or something like this, but then it's most likely that it will end up a very cheesy shot. If you can get that write, you'll get my vote for sure ;-) -Ivan

Outstanding shot Ivan mate!. A perfect combination of a very active city and a beautiful landscape. The cloudy sky looks great too. I like very much The Police, unfortunately I lost their concert when they perform in my country. You have portraited in this challenge some of their most famous hits...I was thinking of portraying one of my favorite songs: "Walking on the moon".

Thanks Tommy. I thought about Metropolis as well, but in the end I went with Bring On The Night, because Seattle has still a long way to go before is is a true Metropolis like NYC or Chicago (and I prefer it that way). So Metropolis is still free :-). This answers your question by the way. The tall building is the Columbia tower, the tallest building in Seattle. -Ivan

Beautiful twilight shot. I need an image like this for Motorhead's "Metropolis". What city is this? It's been a long time since I've seen Chicago but the tall building looks like the Sears Tower.
